Maritime Gazetteer of Australia (MGA) Search

The MGA can be searched by Feature Name, Feature Code or Chart Number, or a combination of all three.

Enter the name you want to search by in the Feature Name field.⁽¹⁾ The search will return a maximum of 100 results at a time.

You can refine your search by defining the Feature Code of the name by selecting from the drop-down list of Feature Codes under the Feature Code field.⁽²⁾

You can further refine your search to names appearing on a specific Australian official navigational chart by entering the chart number in the Chart Number field.⁽³⁾

Hint's

1. Feature Name is a maximum of 30 characters. The search is not case sensitive but spaces are recognised. The search matches to all occurances of the text string being searched. For example the search "long" may find Long Island, Long Beach, Geelong, Longreach Bay.

2. Refine the search for "long" using Feature Code "IS" to locate Long Island, Longitude Island, Longuerue Islands. Search for "long island" Feature Code "IS" to locate only Long Island.

3. Chart numbers should be specified with an 'Aus' prefix. For example, "Aus195". For a list of charts see the Chart Index Text Listing.
