Advanced
Searching
To create complex searches, you can combine query
operators, manipulate the query syntax, and include
wildcard characters. Standard advanced query operators
include the words AND, OR & NOT.
You can also use the * as a wildcard
for zero to many characters or ? for
just a single wildcard character.
You can combine several query operators into a single
query to obtain precise results. For example, you can
input the following query to limit your search to those
documents that have 'Sydney' and 'Harbour',
but to exclude those that mention 'Bay'.
Sydney AND Harbour NOT Bay
You can achieve even greater precision by including
some implicit phrases, as in the following query that
finds documents that refer to the 'Sydney Harbour' by
its full name and also mentions 'Bay', but
does not refer to 'Darling':
Sydney Harbour AND Bay AND NOT Darling
