What is Seafarer Viewer?

Seafarer Viewer is a low cost, easy to use application for viewing electronic charts. The original Seafarer Viewer was developed as a desktop planning and reference tool to view the Australian Navigational Chart Series as Seafarer RNC for non-navigational purposes. In November 2006 Seafarer Viewer was upgraded to display multiple chart formats (see below).

What is the difference between Seafarer Viewer 4.0 and Seafarer Viewer 5.2?

          The main differences between version 4.0 and version 5.2 is its ability to display multiple chart formats and the addition of a route planner. The following table outlines the differences:

Seafarer Viewer has found applications in marine research, search & rescue, and Government departmental operational planning, in fact anywhere that chart information is needed in non-navigational situations.

What is the cost of Seafarer Viewer?

Can I upgrade my current Seafarer Viewer to the new version 5.2?

Existing owners of Seafarer Viewer 4.0 are able to upgrade to the new version 5.2 at no cost. Should you wish to find out more about the offer please email your request and details to hydro.sales@defence.gov.au.

How do I obtain Seafarer Viewer?

Seafarer Viewer is available from any Seafarer Product Distributor.

Why is Seafarer Viewer different from other Electronic Chart Systems?

Seafarer Viewer was developed as a planning and reference tool to provide access to electronic charts for non-navigational purposes.

Whilst Seafarer Viewer has bearing & distance measurement, symbol libraries and drawing tool functionality, it cannot be interfaced with navigational equipment snuch as GPS and Autopilot.
